Last Thursday, the new Ubuntu Hardy released and then I have updated last weekend, at least my laptop to the new version.
The upgrade process went smoothly principle. However, I had to reboot and use the new kernel 2.6.24-16er login no longer possible. After entering the user name and password I found myself in front of a black screen and blinking cursor.
A bit of trial and error led me to use the GDM instead of KDM. So I took the log of Gnome instead of KDE logins. So I came too easily clean.
This led me to an innovation that is possible with GDM, KDM, but not with: Fingerprint Login?
A while ago I had my fingerprints already in the system and tested. Lack of real support in KDE, but again rejected. Now I can sign up for GDM but after entering the user with the fingerprint instead of password.
The fingerprint authentication also works with all other processes which run in a console. I guess I had decorated, as I've played around that time ![]()
Otherwise there as usual, completely updated software has been developed but due to the Stabilitätspromisse under Hardy, no major breakthroughs.
In theory I should now take time and the VDR cratoo.de from Dapper to Hardy, but a version jump from 4 versions I would like for me to break in two major production systems, not necessarily spanking ![]()
